Abstract

1346395 Pressure sensitive recording sheets FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 8 March 1972 [9 March 1971] 10877/72 Heading D2B [Also in Division C3] A colour developer sheet for use in pressure sensitive recording paper comprises a paper support having coated thereon a colour developer layer of a composition comprising a condensation product of an aldehyde, p-phenylphenol and an alkyl phenol of the general formula wherein R 1 , R 2 , R 3 represent hydrogen atoms or alkyl groups, at least one of R 1 -R 3 being alkyl group. The sheet may be made by coating the paper with the above resin dissolved in an organic solvent and/or dispersed in an aqueous binder solution. Suitable binders are styrenebutadiene latex and copolymer, maleic anhydride-styrene copolymer, polyvinyl alcohol, starch, casein, ethyl celluloses, polyvinyl acetate, polyvinylidene chloride and vinyl-chloridevinylidene chloride copolymer. In the examples 1-3 a colour developer sheet of a pressure sensitive recording paper is prepared and developed by placing thereon a colour former sheet composed of a microcapsule-coated paper containing "Crystal" Violet Lactone and then applying pressure. The colour former sheet may instead contain microcapsules containing molachite green lactone, benzoyl leuco methylene blue, rhodamine Blactam, 3-dialkylamino- 7-dialkylamino fluorans and 3-methyl-2-2'-spiro (benzo (f) cumene) or mixtures thereof. In examples 4 and 5 single sheet pressure-sensitive recording paper is prepared by coating the developer and microcapsules on the same surface of the paper. The developer composition can also be used to prepare pressure sensitive duplicating paper in which the side of the paper not bearing the developer layer is coated with the microcapsules. The developer composition can also be used as an ink in the form of a solution in an organic solvent or as a dispersion in a suitable vehicle. The colour developer layer may also contain acid or active clays.
