Abstract
1345622 Measuring temperature electrically BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 6 Dec 1971 [8 Dec 1970] 56602/71 Heading G1N [Also in Division H1] Apparatus for sensing the temperature of a surface Ref comprises a swept frequency microwave generator M supplying micro-wave energy to a micro-wave resonator Re, of material of which the dielectric constant is temperaturedependent, in thermal communication with the surface Ref so that the frequency-response of the resonator is dependent on the temperature of the surface, the reflected wave gw attenuated by the resonator being fed to a micro-wave detector Dt which feeds a CRT to indicate the position of the resonance minimum which is dependent on the required surface temperature. The frequency at which this minimum occurs is determined by simultaneously displaying the output from a micro-wave detector connected to a cavity resonator F coupled to the generator, which output serves for calibration. In place of dielectric resonators magnetic or ferromagnetic materials may be used of which the permeability is temperature dependent. Suitable materials and dimensions are given (See Division H1).
