Abstract

1345438 Peptizing polychloroprene latex DISTUGIL 9 July 1971 [10 July 1970 3 June 1971] 32388/71 Heading C3P Sulphur-modified chloroprene polymer latices, prepared in the presence of sulphur and a modifier comprising iodoform as a di(C 1-8 alkyl)- xanthogen disulphide, are peptized by treatment at a pH of at least 9 with a thiol of formula R-SH or the ionized form RS-M<SP>+</SP>, in which M is an alkali metal or ammonium cation and R is any of a variety of defined organic groups. In examples, conventionally prepared polychloroprene latices are peptized with the following compounds: n-dodecyl mercaptan, n-octyl mercaptan, thiobenzoic acid, the sodium salt of mercaptobenzothiazole, sodium isopropylxanthate, 2-mercaptobenzimidazole, benzenethiol, sodium mercaptosuccinate and 2-thionaphthol.
