Abstract

1345155 Filter DOMNICK HUNTER (HOLDINGS) Ltd 21 June 1971 [6 June 1970] 27492/70 Heading B1T A filter for removal of sub-micronic particles from a fluid, e.g. viable organisms or liquid droplets, such as oil from air, comprises a resin reinforced fibre microporous sleeve 6 carried against a perforate hollow support 7, juxtaposed end regions of the sleeve and support being bonded together by a fluid impervious sealant 5 which penetrates the edge regions of the sleeve. The filter also has two end caps 3, 4 the former of which is provided with a conduit and a porous plastics foam sock 8 which surrounds the filter sleeve and acts as additional filtering means. The support which may be internal of the filter sleeve as shown in Fig. 4 or may be external of the sleeve (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown) is suitably formed of expanded sheet metal, woven wire or internally ribbed plastics material. In Fig. 4 an expanded mild steel support 7 is reinforced by coil spring 9 tensioned into contact with the support. The filter sleeve is suitably formed of glass, e.g. borosilicate, fibres impregnated with an epoxy or formaldehyde resin. The sealant may be silicone rubber or epoxy resin. The filter sleeve may have pores of dimension 1 to 7 microns, or of 7 to 24 microns or of 24 to 40 microns.
