Abstract

1344379 Sintered anisotropic magnets PHILIPS ELECTRONIC AND ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 24 Aug 1971 [27 Aug 1970 24 Oct 1970 and 14 Nov 1970] 39625/71 Heading C7D Sintered anisotropic magnets of the type M-R contains M 5 R, where M is Co with or without Fe, Ni and Cu, and R is one or more of the rare earths, Y and Th, are made by magnetically orienting the powder and then sintering the pressed compact above the critical temperature at which magnetic ageing occurs. Sintering is effected in an evacuated enclosure or a continuously evacuated enclosure and the critical sintering temperatures are 1065‹C for Co-Sm; 975‹C for Co-La Ce; 1060‹C for Co-Pr Sm. The sintered magnets may be heat treated between 800‹C and the sintering temperature or from 50- 300‹C to increase the coercivity.
