Abstract

1343952 Mining machine haulage PITCRAFT Ltd 21 April 1972 [20 April 1971] 10147/71 Heading E1F Haulage of a mining machine along a fixed guide 5 involves a machine-mounted motor driving an endless chain 7 having a straight run that passes through a U-shaped saddle 10 supported on the machine so as to be movable to embrace the guide with only sufficient that extensions 15 mounted on the links of the chain so as to extend away from the base 14 of the saddle 10, when the chain passes through the saddle, are caused as they pass through the saddle bearing against rollers 16 disposed on the insides of the sides 12 of the saddle about axes perpendicular to the base of the saddle, to grip the guide and propel the machine along the guide. In one embodiment a flared entry end of the saddle combines with the rollers to effect pressing of the extensions or gripping pads carried by the links into engagement with the guide. The exit end of the saddle may also be flared. In a second embodiment the extensions comprise wedgecarrying arms pivoted on the links and rollercarrying crank arms engaging cam tracks on the insides of the sides of the saddle.
