Abstract
1343902 Filling channelled members; window frames REYNOLDS METALS CO 6 April 1971 8870/71 Heading B5A [Also in Division E1] A machine for filling an open channel 26 in straight rigid member 21 with thermally insulating plastic material, e.g. in a window frame comprises a nozzle 33 for dispensing the material and driven wheels 56 with spring-loaded backup wheels 64 for feeding the member past the nozzle, the member being also guided by adjustable clamps 112. The plastic material is pumped from a container 35 under the automatic control of a solenoid valve 42 actuated when the member trips a limit switch or photo-electric device placed below the nozzle which also controls the drive wheels, and is cured after the member has passed through the machine. The clamps 112 are formed by a number of plates 113 which can be orientated to conform to different shaped members 21, and clamped by bolts 124. In Fig. 11, not shown, the plates are clamped by cam levers (156). The machine can be controlled manually. After the plastic material has cured a strip portion 31 of the rigid member is removed.
