Abstract

1343895 Compacting metal scrap K TEZUKA 24 Feb 1971 5373/71 Heading B3H A press for compacting metal scrap C into a cylindrical block Cl comprises a compression casing 1 defining a cylindrical scrap receiving compartment, which has closure means, e.g. a door 18, an hydraulically operated ram 13 for compressing the scrap, and a hopper box 24 joined to the casing 1 and communicating with the cylindrical compartment, the box 24 having a hinged lid 26 and a pusher (33), Fig. 3 (not shown), for moving the scrap into the cylindrical compartment. When the scrap C has been loaded into the hopper box, the lid 26 is closed by an hydraulically operated ram 31 and an hydraulic cylinder 35 is actuated to move the pusher (33). The scrap is compressed into the block Cl by the head 14 of the ram 13 against the door 18. The pusher has a concave face (34) which forms a wall of the cylindrical compartment. The ram is then withdrawn, the door 18 raised and the ram advanced again to eject the block on to a delivery plate 38.
