The term fastening element is defined as an element which requires a hole to be made in the workpiece into which the element is to be inserted, before the element can be inserted. The individual elements 8, which may be made of wood, plastics or metal, are connected together by strip or web portions 9, 10, the latter being joined to ridges encircling the leading end portion, of adjacent elements.
