Abstract

1343540 Pilot burner; burner control systems ASW APPARATENFABRIEK NV 19 April 1971 [11 Feb 1970] 20895/71 Headings F4F and F4T In a gas burning assembly comprising a gas pilot burner and a thermal signal and safety device 13, the pilot burner includes a nozzle 10 having a metering orifice for discharging gas along a flow path and a hood formed by a plate member bent to a V-shape of which one leg is normal to said flow path and is connected to nozzle 10, and the other leg provides a gas deflecting surface 14 located across said flow path so as to deflect gas towards device 13. The plate member, Fig. 3, forming the hood has an open notch or groove 4, recesses 1 and a circular opening 3 which is pressed on sleeve 9 for fitting to the nozzle 10. The plate is bent along lines 7 and 8 to form a gutter shape, bent in the line of recesses 1 to form the deflecting surface 14 enclosing an angle of 60 to 70 degrees with said one leg and further bent to form a second deflecting surface 12. The device 13 such as a thermoelectric cell is embraced in the notch 4 and is heated by the pilot flame. If the CO 2 content of the air increases, the flame becomes longer and thinner and the thermoelectric cell cools, actuating the device to cut off the gas supply, or at least that to the main burner, when a 1À7% CO 2 content is reached. In another form, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), the deflecting surface 14 encloses an angle of 25 to 30 degrees with said one leg and the second deflecting surface 12 is replaced by a longitudinal notch or groove (2) in which the flame is formed. The width of the surface 14 is constant over the whole length in both embodiments.
