Abstract

1343388 Powered screwdrivers INGERSOLLRAND CO 23 Aug 1972 [11 Nov 1971] 39245/72 Heading B3N [Also in Division F2] The power-operated screwdriver shown has a removable spindle 6 rotated by a driving member 15 which is in turn rotated by a member 14 through a torque-limiting clutch having balls 26 in holes 25 of member 15 which are in engagement with peripheral flats of a portion 23 of member 14. The balls are pressed resiliently by the conical surface 29 of a member 28 which is biased by a spirng 30. The clutch is variable in its limiting torque by means of a nut adjustment 33. The clutch is also designed (Fig. 2, not shown) to allow a greater torque in one rotational direction than in the other. The spindle 6 is retained in the screwdriver by a spring pressed ball 20, and a screw finder 7 is slidably (biased by spring 8) mounted around the spindle. The torque of the clutch is altered by inserting a tool in an aperture 36 of the nut 33 to hold it, whilst rotating the spindle 6.
