Abstract

1343367 Floating barriers BRIDGESTONE TIRE KK 7 March 1972 [13 March 1971] 10651/72 Heading E1H A floating oil fence comprises an elongate resilient belt member 1 provided with spaced vertical reinforcement means, and one or more flexible horizontal tubular float members 2 secured to it. Weights 4 or a chain (not shown) are secured along the bottom edge either by being embedded therein, suspended therefrom, or by being attached to the bottom of the reinforcement means. The belt member is formed of one or more rubber, neoprene or vinyl chloride sheets, or of such sheet(s) and spaced resilient bonded backing straps 1a between which the reinforcement means 11 may be sandwiched. The reinforcement may comprise folded, bent, ridged or corrugated portions of the sheet(s) forming the belt member (Figs. 3A, and 4 to 6 not shown), which corrugations may be produced by appropriate attachment of the bonded backing straps or the inflatable float member(s) (Fig. 7 not shown) to the belt member, and/or bars, tubes or strips 11 of hard vinyl chloride or other reinforced plastics, stainless steel, aluminium or glass fibre. The float member(s) are preferably formed of a cord reinforced rubber hose, wire reinforced soft vinyl chloride tubes or light synthetic resin blocks. When the fence is formed from a plurality of suitably joined fence sections, the respective joints between adjacent belt member and float member sections are staggered.
