Abstract

1343299 Urinary drainage assemblies ABBOTT LABORATORIES 3 Aug 1971 [26 Aug 1970] 36486/71 Heading A5R A urinary drainage assembly includes a container 10 having a substantially rigid lower portion 11 sealed at a peripheral flange 15 to a flange 21 of a foldable upper portion 17 which may be collapsed into the portion 11 to provide a storage area for other parts of the assembly, a peelable cover (37), Figure 2 (not shown), being sealed over the flange 15 to form a package, the cover preferably being gas-permeable to permit gas sterilization of the package and its contents. A tube 27 is connected to an outlet 26 and may be pushed over a fitting 28, which communicates with the interior of the container, to effectively close the outlet 26. An air vent and filter 29 is provided in a top panel 20 of the portion 17. In use of the assembly an inlet 25 is connected via a tube 50 and an air vent and air filter device 60, having a removable dust cap 68, to a drainage catheter, the tube preferably being provided with a releasable clamp (51), Figure 1 (not shown). The device 60 comprises coaxial tubes 61, 62 joined by a cylindrical part 64 which is spaced from tube 61 by legs 65 to define an interrupted air inlet opening 66, a filter ring 67 covering the opening 66. The portion 17 has a handle 23 and support hooks 32. The portion 11 may be made from rigid vinyl sheeting by thermoforming, and the portion 17 may be made of plasticised vinyl.
