Abstract

134,326. Davidson, S. C. Oct. 31, 1918. Composition fuel. - Damp raw peat, as taken from the bog, is intimately ground and mixed with a coagulating-agent consisting of about 60 per cent by weight of pitch and 40 per cent of slaked lime, with or without a small quantity of other substances, such as powdered coke or coal. The mixing is continued until the peat-mass is distinctly alkaline, homogeneous, and somewhat like putty in consistency. By the action of the coagulating-agent, the gelatinous and other constituents of the peat are coagulated. The peatmass, after standing some time if necessary, is moulded under pressure in suitable moulds, whence the water issues from the peat-mass as a nearly colourless liquid.
