Abstract

1342772 Cranes WARNER & SWASEY CO 19 April 1971 [17 April 1970] 25064/71 Heading B8B A slider assembly 14, 16, mounted on one section of a crane telescopic boom to slidingly support an adjacent section comprises a support assembly 80 pivotally connected at 68 to one boom section and supporting a pair of slider pads 72, 74 pivotally mounted thereon for sliding engagement with the adjacent boom section. The pads 72, 74 are each mounted on blocks 84, 86 pivotally mounted between a pair of spaced plates forming the assembly 80, the pads pivoting relative to each other to support the boom section during deflection due to loading thereon. An alternative slider assembly 124 comprises a slider pad 130 mounted between pivoted side plates and having slots formed transversely in its supporting surface, the whole assembly 124 being designed to have a structural deflection curve which matches the deflection curve of the supported boom sections in the area where the slider assembly engages the boom. In a final embodiment the slider block assemblies 84, 86 of the first embodiment are designed so that their curve of deflection matches the curve of deflection of the supported beam section.
