Abstract

1342746 Pigment dispersions IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 Nov 1971 [22 Dec 1970 14 June 1971] 60903/70 and 27768/71 Heading C3R A dispersion of an inorganic pigment or lake or toner in an organic liquid contains dissolved therein one or more polyesters or a salt thereof derived from a hydroxycarboxylic acid of the formula: HO-X-COOH in which X is a divalent saturated or unsaturated aliphatic radical containing at least 8 carbon atoms and in which there are at least 4 carbon atoms between the hydroxy and carboxylic acid groups, or from a mixture of such a hydroxycarboxylic acid and a carboxylic acid which is free from hydroxy groups. The polyesters used in the examples are prepared from 12-hydroxystearic acid optionally with stearic acid, ricinoleic acid optionally with oleic acid, and a mixture of 9- and 10-hydroxy stearic acids and dispersions are formed using such polyesters and various organic liquids (e.g. petroleum fraction, nhexane or perchloroethylene) and pigments (e.g. rosinated barium or calcium toner of an azo dyestuff).
