1342564 A device for breaking-down a stack of prismatic billets MOELLER & NEUMANN GmbH 18 May 1972 [19 May 1971] 23494/72 Heading B8C A device for breaking-down a stack of prismatic billets, or similar articles, 16 comprises a group of stationary support beams 1 which have upright stops la and which are associated with a co-operating set of oscillatory walking beams in a cooling bed, not shown, and at least two pairs of coaxial support members 8, 10 which are individually rotatable, about an axle 6 carried by the beams 1, by respective hydraulic cylinders 12, 14. In use a stack of billets is deposited, by a crane, not shown, on to the group of stationary beams 1 and then the hydraulic cylinders 12, 14 are actuated to place the members 8, 10 in the position shown in Fig. 1, so that the stack rests on the members 8, between the stops 1a and the members 10. The cylinder 12 is then operated to rotate the members 8 clockwise, the cylinder 14 being controlled to provide a yielding counter-pressure to the members 10 until both of the members 8, 10 assume the 45 degrees position as shown in Fig. 2. The members 8, 10 are then rotated in opposite senses until they extend horizontally and below the support surfaces of the support beams 1, the stack spreading out as shown in Fig. 3. The billets are then carried by the walking beams associated with the beams 1 on to a second oscillatory walking beam system 2 which delivers the billets on to a rollway 4 by means of a vertically-displaceable, bell-crank 3.
