Abstract

1342563 Propellants FRANCE ARMED FORCES MINISTER OF 15 May 1972 [18 May 1971] 22735/72 Heading C1D [Also in Division C3] A propellant comprises an oxidizing charge and, if desired, a reducing charge and comprises a polyurethane binder derived from reacting a polyoxyalkylene glycol, a triol and a diisocyanate in the presence of 1 to 6% by weight, based on the polyurethane-forming ingredients, of a titanium compound of the formula wherein R 1 is a C 1-6 alkyl radical, X is either -R 2 -NR 3 R 4 , wherein R 2 is a C 1-4 alkylene radical and R 3 and R 4 , which may be the same or different, are hydrogen or an alkyl or hydroxyalkyl radical, or -R 5 -OH, wherein R 5 is an alkylene or aromatic radical, or -CO-R 6 , wherein R 6 is an alkyl or aromatic radical and n and m are integers whose sum is 4. In specific examples the titanium compounds used are diisopropoxy - titanium - bis - triethanolamine, diisopropoxy - titanium - bis - hexylene glycol and triisopropoxy titanium stearate. In a typical example a propellant having a polyurethane binder was prepared by heating a mixture of polyoxypropylene glycol, poly (neopentyl glycol azelate), trimethylol-propane, triethanolamine, tolylene diisocyanate, dioctyl azelate, diisopropoxy - titanium - bis - triethanolamine, zinc mercaptobenzimidazolate, ammonium perchlorate and aluminium. The propellants have a modified maximum tensile elongation and maximum stress.
