Abstract

1342553 Lacquer mixtures containing modified polyisocyanates BAYER AG 8 March 1972 [9 March 1971] 10766/72 Heading C3R Air- and heat-drying lacquers comprise a mixture of (1) one or more alkyd resins containing both free OH groups and unsaturated fatty acid radicals and (2) one or more polyisocyanates which are polyaddition products of (a) one or more diisocyanates and/or polyisocyanates and (b) one or more OH group-containing partial esters of polyhydric alcohols and OH group-free doubly- or trebly-unsaturated fatty acids or OH group-free fatty acid mixtures containing more than 20% by weight of doubly- or trebly-unsaturated fatty acids. The polyaddition products are suitably derived from partial esters which contain at least two free OH groups, which partial esters are derived from glycerol, trimethylolpropane or pentaerythritol and an OH group-free fatty acid obtained from soya bean oil, linseed oil, groundnut oil, dehydrated castor oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil, tall oil or wood oil. Preferred polyisocyanates for forming the polyaddition products are hexamethylene diisocyanate and 1 - isocyanato - 3,3,5 - trimethyl - 5 - isocyanatomethyl cyclohexane. The alkyd resin may be derived from the oils mentioned above and preferably has an oil content of 25 to 55% by weight and an OH number of 20 to 120. White spirit is the preferred lacquer solvent.
