Abstract
1342412 Moulding glass CARL-ZEISSSTIFTUNG [trading as JENAER GLASWERK SCHOTT & GEN] 18 Jan 1971 [17 Jan 1970] 2251/71 Heading C1M In moulding apparatus, for producing a solid disc shaped glass blank, comprising a mould having an undivided mould cavity and a die with die cavity so that the blank corresponds to the combined mould and die cavities, the mould comprises a U-shaped mould section 3 the base of which is arched to provide a cavity 5 and the limbs of which are closed by a coverplate 4 to define a chamber 6 for cooling the mould, the cover-plate 4 having conduits 14, 16 communicating with the chamber 6 to enable cooling fluid to be introduced into and discharged therefrom through inlet means 13 and outlet means 17 and the mould being provided with a passage 8<SP>1</SP>, 8, 10, 11, 12 extending from the cavity 5 through the mould section 3 and the cover-plate 4 to enable the cavity 5 to be evacuated for forming the blank, or supplied with fluid for removal of the blank. The passages 16, formed in an annular plate 15, may be perpendicular, as shown, to the passage 14 or may be inclined so as to deflect the coolant fluid to preferred positions. For maintaining the central area of the mould hotter than the marginal areas, a hollow plate 18 is provided and pressed on to packing 21 on the central wall 7 of the mould by springs 19, 20. The shape, size and position of plate 18 may be varied as required. The die is provided with a bore system (24) to the die cavity (23) for discharge of air during pressing.
