Abstract

1342182 Dental floss holder P G GREENACRE 28 April 1972 19918/72 Heading A5R A dental floss holder comprises an elongated handle 12 integral with a bifurcated head 13 which is at one end of the handle 12 and includes a pair of spaced arms 14 formed in their extremities with notches 15 for receiving a length of dental floss, and means for anchoring the ends of said length of floss, said means comprising a button 16 having a shank 18 and a pair of enlarged knobs 19, 20 at the ends of said shank 18, the shank being slidably but non-rotatably received in an opening (17), Fig. 2 (not shown) in the head 13, the shank being longer than the opening to allow limited sliding of the button 16, the button being further provided with passages 21, 22 for receiving the floss, the floss being anchored between the shank and the walls of the opening (17) by sliding the button in one direction. Said passages comprise grooves 22 in the shank 18 which are exposed when the button 16 is slid in a direction opposite to said one direction, and a kerf or slit 21 extending across one knob 19 and axially into the shank 18. The opening (17) and the button 16 have a flattened oval cross-section. The handle 12 may accommodate attachments such as a brush, mirror, or a floss reservoir 30.
