Abstract

1342108 Ornamenting glass; printing apparatus OWENS-ILLINOIS Inc 6 April 1971 8825/71 Headings B6G and B6C [Also in Divisions C1 and B2] Glass containers C are decorated by applying a decorating composition at station 1, drying this composition by hot air at a temperature between 140-160‹ F. in a manifold 25 at station 2. A second decorating composition is applied at station 3 and if necessary the containers are then fired. If three decorating stations are required, the intermediate drying is carried out by infra-red bulbs. The decoration stations 1, 3 comprise a silk screen 20 mounted in a rectangular frame 21 held by a bracket 22 controlled to move the screen in reciprocating fashion as indicated by arrows 23. A blade 24 contacts the upper surface of the screen as the frame and screen move in either direction. Decorating composition is metered on to the upper surface of the screen as a container comes to rest beneath the screen: The container is tilted upwardly into contact with the screen, and cam elements provide simultaneous rotation of the container and movement of the screen 20 in one direction or the other, and the stationary blade 24 forces the decorating composition through the screen and on to the container.
