Abstract
1342058 Light guides E SICK 28 March 1972 [1 April 1971 11 Oct 1971] 14519/72 Heading G2J [Also in Division G1] In an arrangement wherein light from a linearly scanning beam is appliedto a dectector 13, Fig.2 by internal reflection in a rod 14 placed along the scanned path, uniformity of response is enhanced by a mirror 12 along the side remote from the incident beam in combination with shutters 16a..i which may be individually adjusted by screws 17 Fig. 1. The surface 14 on which light is incident is made matt by grinding or etching to diffuse the light, and an additional diffusing state 25 diffused on its underside may be mounted above but close to the rod. The spacing between the plate 25 and the rod may be varied along its length by inclining the plate to the rod. The apparatus may be used in conjuntion with a laser beam scanning a moving material for defects and may include a filter to select a desired wavelength. A cylindrical lens and mirror may be provided at the end remote from the detector.
