1341802 Combating nutsedge GULF RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO 15 May 1972 [17 May 1971 21 April 1972] 22676/72 Heading A5E [Also in Division C2] A method of combating nutsedge comprises applying to the locus thereof a quatenary 4- phenylpyridinium salt or a deivative thereof, in particular a compound in which the positive ion of formula in which X is H, F, CH 3 or Br; Y is H or C2; and Z is H or carboxy. Preferred compounds are the 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium salts, e.g. for chloride, bromide, iodide or methylsulfate.
