1304174 Pyrrylvinylthiazolium salts WELL- - COME FOUNDATION Ltd (Burroughs Wellcome & Co USA Inc) 5 March 1970 [7 March 1969] 12158/69 Headings C2C and C2P Compounds (I): (where R is 1-6C alkyl or optionally substituted phenyl; Z is Ph, p-halophenyl, p-alkoxyphenyl, biphenylyl, p-alkoxy biphenylyl or naphthyl and X- is the anion of a pharmaceutically acceptable acid) are prepared (1) by reacting a compound (II) with a compound: (III): and optionally forming the salt or (2) by ring closure of a compound (IV): in which the compound IV may be prepared in situ by reacting a compound (V): with a compound Z-CO-CH 2 A. The following starting materials are prepared: 2 - methyl - 4 - p - biphenylyl thiazole and its methiodide; 2,5 - dimethyl - 1 - phenylpyrrole and 1 - phenyl - 2,5 - dimethylpyrrole - 3 - carboxaldehyde; 3 - (2,5 - dimethyl - 1 - phenylpyrrol-3-yl) acrylomethylamide and its thioamide and p - phenyl - phenacyl - N - methyl - 3- (2,5 - dimethyl - 1 - phenyl - pyrrol - 3 - yl)- acrylothioimidate - HBr; 3 - (1,2,5 - trimethylpyrrol - 3 - yl) acrylomethylamide and its thioamide and p - bromophenacyl - N - methyl - 3- (1,2,5 - trimethylpyrrol - 3 - yl) acrylothioimidate HBr, and N-methylcarbamoylmethyltriphenylphosphonium chloride. Pharmaceutical compositions useful in treating nematode infection are in forms suitable for oral administration.
