Abstract

Butt joints; with valves and cocks. - A pipe coupling for connecting machines and tools worked by compressed air to the various branches of the pipes supplying the working fluid is fitted with a valve i formed with a conical head f and adapted to be moved from its seat g when a union nut j forces a connexion k, to which the pneumatic tool is attached, into contact with a barrel or tube c which screws into the valve chamber h connected by a coupling r to the compressed air supply. The valve stem is formed with three guidewebs e which fit loosely in the barrel c, and these are engaged by the top of the connexion k, which is of smaller diameter than the circle enclosing the webs e. Or the member k may be provided with a cross-bar for engaging these webs, the construction in either case being such that the valve is opened automatically by coupling the tool to the compressed air conduit. When the tool is uncoupled, the pressure of the air closes the valve. The parts c, h may be connected by sweating. The coupling may be used to connect sections of hose together. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 5462/11.
