Abstract

1340045 Coating TiO 2 particles LAPORTE INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [6 March 1970] 10854/70 Heading C1N TiO 2 particles are coated with one or more hydroxides, hydrous oxides, phosphates, and basic sulphates, and are subjected, during formation of the coating, to intensive agitation for at least 5 minutes in a sand mill, colloid mill, or ultrasonic vibrator. The coating may be of an oxide, hydroxide or sulphate of Be, Ca, Mg, Ba, B, Al, Si, Sn, Pb, Sb, Ti, Zr, Hf, Nb, Ta, Zn or Ce, or a phosphate of Ti, Zr or Al. There may be one layer containing 2 or more substances, or several layers each containing one or several substances. Coating is effected by described conventional methods. The pigment may also be contacted with an organic treating agent, e.g. pentaerythritol, triethanolamine, silicones, dicarbonyls, esters, or organo Ti compounds, during and/or after agitation. The product may be washed, filtered, dried, and milled.
