1339429 Low lead-release PVC compositions MITSUBISHI JUSHI KK 16 Dec 1970 [18 Dec 1969] 59756/70 'Heading C3P [Also in Division F2] Lead-stabilized compositions based on vinyl chloride polymers and copolymers contain 0À02 to 10 wt. per cent (based on the polymer) of a chemical compound (such as a phosphate, phosphite, carbonate, bicarbonate, bisulphate, chromate, or sulphide of Na, K, Ca, Al or Mg) which, in an aqueous medium, will undergo a double decomposition reaction with lead chloride to form a substantially water-insoluble lead salt. The polymer may be a vinyl chloride homopolymer or copolymer (e.g. with vinyl acetate), or after-chlorinated PVC, or a blend of one of the foregoing with methyl methacrylate-butadienestyrene copolymer, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer, chlorinated polyethylene, ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer or ethylene-vinyl acetate-vinyl chloride copolymer. Conduits and utensils made from the above compositions have little tendency to release lead into water.
