Abstract

1338668 Electro-depositing uneven metal platings TOYOTA JIDOSHA KOGYO K K 17 Sept 1971 [21 Sept 1970] 43525/71 Heading C7B [Also in Division B2] A metallic surface is plated by electrolyzing the surface in a plating bath without brighteners at an elevated temperature to deposit an uneven layer of metal plating on the metallic surface. The uneven plating metal may be lead, copper or nickel. In examples: (1, 3) mild steel plate is cleaned and electrolyzed in a solution of 57g lead borofluoride in 200 ml water at 45 Œ 5‹C., the voltage applied being DC 4 Œ 1 for 5 minutes, the plate forming the cathode with a lead anode; (2) Cu plate was cleaned and electrolyzed as in (1); (4) a mild steel plate was nickel plated using a bath composition of 30g. NiSO 4 , 3g.NH 4 Cl, 3g boric acid, 200 ml water at 25 Œ 5‹C., the plating conditions being 5v. applied for 10 minutes. Four typical examples of plating bath conditions and compositions are also given: (1) for lead plating, a bath composition of 57 to 70g. lead borofluoride with 100 to 200 ml. water, and plating conditions of >3v/0À3 dm<SP>2</SP> applied for >6 min at 50 Œ 2‹C; (2) also for lead plating, a bath composition of 50 to 65g. lead sulphamate, 10 to 12g. sulphannic acid, 100 to 200 ml. water, and plating conditions of >8v. /0À3 dm<SP>2</SP> applied for >6 min. at 40 Œ 2‹C; (3) for copper plating, 50 to 70g. CuSO 4 , 10 to 12g. H 2 SO 4 , 100 to 200 ml. water, and plating conditions of >8V/0À3 dm<SP>2</SP> applied for >6 min. at 50 Œ 2‹C; and (4) for nickel plating 50 to 70g. NiSO 4 , 5 to 7g. NiCl 2 , 6 to 8g. boric acid, 100 to 200 ml water, and plating conditions of>10V/0À3 dm<SP>2</SP> applied for >10 min. at 50 Œ 2‹C.
