Abstract
1338501 Respiratory resistance measurements E JAEGER 19 April 1971 [3 April 1970] 25958/71 Heading A5R A direct indicating device for measuring respiratory resistance comprises a flow resistance 10 through which respiratory air passes and which can be switched on by a control device 25 between two resistance values, a pressure-sensing device 12 providing an electrical output signal corresponding to the pressure drop across the flow resistance, the output of the sensing device being connected to a switch 16 via an amplifier 14, the switch being connected to two signal storage units 18a, b, the control device 26 and switch 16 being controlled synchronously by a timing device 28, the outputs of signal storage circuits 18a, b being connected with a dividing circuit 20, whose output 22 provides an output signal corresponding to the quotient of the supplied signal, and means 24 for indicating and/or registering the quotient signal. In operation a patient 30 is connected with a flow resistance 10 by means of a mouth-piece (not shown). When the flow resistance is set to its maximum value the pressure drop #P at the flow resistance varies in accordance with a curve (A), Figure 2 (not shown), and when it is set at its minimum value the pressure drop varies in accodance with a curve (B). When the resistance to respiratory air is periodically switched between its two resistance values, the pressure drop varies in accordance with generally rectangular pulses comprising parts of curves (A), (B).
