Abstract

1338449 Building panels; elevated floors; ceilings MERO AG 19 April 1971 [30 Jan 1970] 25956/71 Headings E1B and E1W [Also in Division B5] A composite load-bearing building slab is formed from a preformed tray of relatively high tensile strength and elasticity modulus into the cavity of which is poured a material of relatively low tensile strength and elasticity modulus, in an amount which corresponds approximately with the volume of the cavity, this material being at least partially consolidated and, during or after consolidation, the volume being adjusted to that required to fill the cavity. The filling material may, e.g. be concrete, cement-bonded mineral substances, synthetic resins which may have various fillers or may act as binders for fibrous materials, wood fibres and cement or asbestos cement. The tray may be of steel, which may be galvanised or have a rough protective layer and/or a plastics layer; light metal alloys; or pressure-mouldable plastics such as glass-fibre reinforced synthetic resin. The tray preferably has holes or pressed out tabs for anchorage and may be placed on a vibrating surface to consolidate the filling, which is then levelledoff with a scraper; or it may be placed in a mould having holes in its base corresponding to those in the base of the trough and slightly overfilled, the filling then being compressed to consolidate and level it and the surplus being expressed through the holes. Alternatively the tray may be slightly under-filled and then consolidated by bringing a plunger level with the top and forcing plugs up through the holes in the base, these being withdrawn subsequently to leave cavities in the slab. In other embodiments the tray is formed without holes or tabs, these being produced by pressure tools at the consolidation stage. The tray may be flanged and a cover plate, of the same material provided. Floor elements for a double floor are provided with precisely-located anchorage holes for the dowels of foot supports (Fig. 9, not shown). Ceiling slabs for a 3-dimensional lattice (Figs. 10 and 10a not shown) have anchorage screws pressed up through the bottom of the tray, and peripheral flanges which enable the elements to be secured by screws to the support plates of modal element.
