Abstract
1338288 Tanker vehicles G A RIGBY AND B K WALKER 4 Oct 1972 [4 Dec 1971] 56389/71 Heading B7B A slurry tanker trailer vehicle has a chassis 12 including a channel member 13 which defines a flow passage for slurry entering and leaving the tank 11, the member 13 being arranged directly at the underside of the tank and extending longitudinally thereof. The chassis consists of an axle 12a, mounting wheels 23, members 12b connected between the axle and the member 13, tank supports 12c and a tow bar 12d fixed to the member 13. The channel member is isolated from direct communication with the tank, the slurry being passed therethrough on entering or leaving the tank by a pump 14 and valves 15 and 18. A coupling 16 connects the pump inlet to the channel member and a three way valve 15 selectively connects the pump outlet to a coupling 20 connecting the tank interior or to a discharge pipe 21; line 21 passes up through the tank interior to an outlet (Fig. 3b, not shown). Valve 18 selectively connects a supply line 17a to a coupling 19 to the tank interior or to a line 17 connecting the member 13. During filling (Fig. 3a, not shown) slurry flows via lines 17a and 17 to the member 13 and thence via coupling 16 and the pump to the coupling 20. During discharge (Fig. 3b) slurry flows into member 13 via coupling 19 and line 17 and is then pumped to the discharge line 21. The slurry may be recirculated within the tank by drawing it into member 13 via coupling 19 and line 17 and returning it via couplings 16 and 20. The pump may be of the helical screw type and may be driven by a power-take-off shaft 22 from the towing vehicle.
