Abstract
1338121 Railway systems A P PEDRICK 18 May 1972 38348/71 Heading B7L A train 30 is moved through a tube 33 by sucking air out of the tube ahead of the train. The train may be accelerated by linear induction motors. An air flow is permitted to pass between the top of the train and the tube to create a pressure difference above and below the train which pressure difference lifts the train off the bottom of the tube. The pressure difference may be controlled by plate 38 regulating the flow over the top of the train and by a valve (36) in a duct connecting the spacers above and below the train. The train may additionally be lifted off the bottom of the tube by the repulsive force between magnets mounted in the train and outside the tube. The train-carrying tubes 33 may be mounted on existing railway track, above roads or rivers and under rivers or the sea.
