Abstract

1338074 Spoons and forks SPEAR & JACKSON (ASHBERRY) Ltd 19 April 1971 [31 March 1970] 15245/70 Heading A4A [Also in Divisions B3, B4 and B6] In a method of manufacturing an item of cutlery, a handle 12 is formed from metal, is coloured for a least part of its length by a chemical or electrolytic process, and then machined to form a pattern on the coloured surface. The handle has bores 14, 16 drilled therein and an end cap 18 and a split spring tang 22 are pressed into the bores. The bowl part 10 of a spoon, the blade of a knife or the prong part of a fork is secured to the handle 12 by tang 22. The handle may be of round or square cross-section and is preferably made of aluminium or aluminium alloy, and the colouring is produced by anodizing. The machining of the pattern may be carried out by diamond milling.
