Abstract

1,208,976. Spoons; forks. SPEAR & JACKSON (ASHBERRY) Ltd. 19 Feb., 1969 [15 March, 1968], No. 12737/68. Headings A4A and A4V. [Also in Division B3] A method of manufacturing spoons or forks comprises fitting a peg 22 securely in a hole 18 extending in the axial direction of a metal bar 10 and shaping the bar into a bowl for a spoon or prongs for a fork. A steel tension pin 22 is inserted in the hole 18 of a stainless steel bar 10 using a pneumatically operated jig so as to compress the pin slightly at 26 to obtain a force fit therein. The front part 12 of the bar is then rolled forged by being rolled and cross rolled to form a blank which is clipped to the required shape and pressed to impart three dimensional shape. The protruding part of the peg is inserted in a bore 32 of a handle 28 by the use of the jig and an end cap 30 is secured to the free end of the handle by a peg 36.
