1337511 Machine and method for filling powder into containers PERRY INDUSTRIES Inc 13 Jan 1972 1728/72 Heading B8C In a machine for uniformly filling containers with powdered material measuring chambers 13 mounted on an intermittently rotatable, and vertically displaceable, disc 15 and connectible to a vacuum manifold 18 except at a position for discharge into a cartridge 23 where they are each connected to a pressure manifold 19, each measuring chamber 13 has, as one of its walls, a gas pervious, but powder impervious, material which wall is situated between the source of vacuum, or pressure, and the measuring chamber proper. Excess powder sucked up, as the chambers 13 descend, one at a time, into the powder in a powder vessel 4, is removed by a non-metallic wire 29 as the chambers 13 are indexed towards the discharge position where each container, in turn, is lowered and the vacuum source 18 is replaced by source of pressure from the manifold 19 to discharge the powder therein into the corresponding one of a number of cartridges 23. The latter are mounted in pairs in boats 22 which are moved, in synchronism with the disc 15 along a track 24 by means of a star wheel 25. The plate 15 is mounted upon a shaft 20 which is periodically turned by a gear 26 which meshes with a gear 31 on an eight-station, intermittently-rotatable, air table 30 which carries the star wheel 25. The periodic raising and lowering of the plate 15 at the filling and discharging stations is effected by an aircylinder 27. The powder vessel 4, which is mounted for intermittent movement by an air cylinder 8 and ratchet wheel 7, has a feed auger 3 in a supply hopper 1, and a distributer cone 11, the upper surface of the powder being maintained level, and the powder non-lumpy, by a non-metallic blade and rake 6.
