Abstract

1337216 Recovering brass ROESSING BRONZE CO 21 March 1972 13186/72 Heading C7D Metallic brass is recovered from the skimmings of a brass melting furnace by heating the skimmings to a temperature above the melting point of the metal content of the skimmings in the presence of a fluxing agent comprising an oxide of boron and Na 2 CO 3 , thus producing a slag blanket. At least one element chosen from Ca, Al, Si, Mn and Ti is added to the slag blanket to lower the viscosity and reduce the metal oxides, allowing the metallic brass to coalesce into droplets which settle from the slag blanket. The oxide of boron may be contained in rasorite or colemanite.
