Abstract

1337131 Reinforced polyester resins ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 18 Dec 1970 [19 Dec 1969] 60141/70 Heading C3P [Also in Division B5] An object containing reinforcing material and an impregnating resin in cured state is manufactured by impregnating a reinforcing material with an uncured impregnating resin containing an unsaturated polyester having free hydroxyl groups, an unsaturated monomer and a polyisocyanate, with an accelerator for polymerization reactions between unsaturated groups and with a metal chelate, distributing a catalyst for polymerization reactions between unsaturated groups over a surface of the impregnated reinforcing material, compressing and/or shaping the impregnated reinforcing material, and curing the impregnating resin, said impregnating resin, when in the presence of the accelerator and the metal chelate, being capable of being cured without heat being supplied. In the examples glass fibre mats consisting of glass fibre bundles bound with a binder, e.g. polyvinyl acetate or a polyester resin, glass fibre fabrics and paper are impregnated with a resin comprising polyesters prepared from maleic anhydride, phthalic anhydride, ethylene glycol, isophthalic acid, propylene glycol, fumaric acid, hexachloroendomethylenetetrahydrophthalic acid and diethylene glycol, hydroquinone, styrene, toluylene-2,4- or 2,6-diisocyanate, cobalt naphthenate, zinc stearate, chalk, titanium acetyl acetonate, naphthylene - 1,5 - diisocyanate, tin octoate, malonic acid methyl ester titanate, aluminium acetyl acetonate, dolomite and antimony trioxide and the resin is cured using cyclohexanone peroxide and methyl ethyl ketone peroxide.
