Abstract
1,139,433. Filled polyester resins. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. 31 May, 1966 [2 June, 1965], No. 24166/66. Heading C3P. A moulding composition with a filler in powder and/or fibrous form and with an unsaturated polyester resincomprising an unsaturated alkyd resin and an ethylenically unsaturated monomer as a binder is prepared by adding the unsaturated alkyd resin, the ethylenically unsaturated monomer, a catalyst for polymerization reactions of unsaturated groups and at least one polyfunctional isocyanate to the filler to form a resinous mixture before the unsaturated alkyd resin and the isocyanate have reacted at all or to any substantial degree. and thereafter allowing the alkyd resin and the isocyanate to react with each other completely or to a substantial degree so that the resinous mixture is non-sticky without the unsaturated groups in the alkyd resin and the monomer reacting with each other so that they are available for reaction during use of the resinous mixture for the manufacture of moulded products. Suitable isocyanates are toluylene-2,4- or -2,6-diisocyanate, dimerized toluylene-2,4- diisocyanate, diphenyl methane-4,4<SP>1</SP>-diisocyanate, naphthylene-1,5-diisocyanate, triphenylmethane - 4,4<SP>1</SP>,4<SP>11</SP> - triisocyanate, hexamethylene - 1,6 - diisocyanate, an isocyanate of formula and an isocyanate of formula Also used in the examples are: a polyester prepared from isophthalic acid, propylene glycol and maleic anhydride and a polyester prepared from phthalic acid anhydride, maleic anhydride or fumaric acid and ethylene glycol; styrene, diallyl phthalate and methyl methacrylate; tert-butyl perbenzoate, benzoyl peroxide and dicumyl peroxide; hydroquinone; zinc stearate, china clay, chalk, glass fibre flock, barium sulphate, titanium dioxide, sisal fibres, polystyrene, mica powder, sope stone powder, asbestos fibres, chloroparaffin, antimony trioxide and dolomite.
