1336906 Pressure gauge ESSO RESEARCH & ENG CO 23 March 1971 7555/71 Heading G1L In a liquid storage system a plurality of tanks 1, 2 and 3 are connected by pipes 7, 8 and 9, pumps 19, 20, 21, pipes 16, 17 and 18 and valves 19, 20 and 21 to a pressure-transmitting chamber 22, divided by a flexible diaphragm 23 and connected via a pipe 24 to a manometer tube 25 and the arrangement is such that the amount of liquid or flowable particulate solid contained in the appropriate tank 1, 2 or 3 can be determined by opening one of the valves 19, 20 or 21 to allow the hydrostatic head of the liquid to deflect the diaphragm 23 to raise the liquid in the manometer 25. The liquid level in manometer 25, and if necessary the temperature, is determined by tables relating to the hydrostatic head and dimensions of the tank 1, 2 or 3. A change in the capacitance in an electrical probe 27 is measured by a device 28 and transmitted by a device 29 to a remote indicator 30. Alternatively the manometer 25 may be weighed using a strain gauge, a spring or a fulcrum arm balance. In a further alternative the pressure of an inert gas above the liquid in manometer 25 may be utilized by opening valves 32, 33. (For Figure see next page)
