1336577 Processing nuts A M OLUSANYA 22 Dec 1970 60995/70 Heading A2Q [Also in Division C6] In a plant for processing kolanuts (Cola acuminata) to produce a powder for making beverages, the nuts, after passing through a washer 4, peeler 10 and washer 20, are sliced at 22 and transferred by bucket elevator 24 to a roaster and cooler 26 in which the sliced material is heated and dried by hot air and cooled before being discharged to a collector 28. To produce a powder of particle size of about 300 microns the material from the collector 28 is fed to a grinder 30, dust collector 34 and bagging machine 36, but to make a powder for an "instant" beverage the material from the collector 28 is transferred to a pulverizer 40 in which it is reduced to a particle size of about 15 microns. The powder then passes through a dust collector 44 and mixer 46 in which it is dissolved in hot water admitted through nozzles 78. The resulting solution is passed through a draw-off tank 48, first filter 52, cooler 54, second filter 58 and a tank 62 to a spray dryer 66 to produce a powder which is bagged at 68.
