Abstract

1336532 Nitrocellulose granules FRANCE ARMED FORCES MINISTER OF 24 March 1972 13883/72 Addition to 1331311 Heading C3F Phlegmatized nitrocellulose in the form of particles or chips is obtained by contacting (a) an aqueous emulsion of a polyol containing free hydroxyl groups capable of reacting with isocyanate groups, and selected from poly. oxyalkyleneglycols having a molecular weight of at least 400, polyesters, polyethers and polyurethane oils with (b) nitrocellulose impregnated with, or in suspension in, water. The proportion of polyol is from 15 to 40% by weight of the nitrocellulose. The product formed is then calendered to the desired thickness, dried and the sheet crushed and cut into pieces. An emulsifier may be present. Preferred emulsifiers are condensates of ethylene oxide with fatty alcohols or nonylphenol and sodium alkyl or aryl sulphonates.
