Abstract
1336371 Winding up bobbins for weft shuttles; travelling wave shedding looms VYZKUMNY USTAV BAVLNARSKY 22 April 1971 [28 April 1970] 10885/71 Headings DID D1E and D1J A thread winding apparatus for winding thread onto bobbins housed in weft shuttles and of the kind comprising a turret, Fig. 2, an endless chain 10 passing around the turret, under the warp 52 and then back to the turret, thread winding heads 4 distributed regularly around the circumference of the turret, means for causing a flyer arm 44, Fig. 4, on each winding head 4 to descend on a bobbin 12 and its shuttle 11 as it enters the turret, means for causing each flyer arm 44 to wind one weft length of thread onto the bobbin below it whilst the bobbin and its shuttle move around the turret and means for retracting the flyer arm 44 upwardly when a winding is completed, said apparatus being characterized in that there are (a) a clamp 18 on each winding head 4 for holding the free end of the thread 21 whilst the flyer arm 44 winds thread onto the bobbin and for releasing the thread end when the winding is complete; (b) at least one pair of scissors 24 for cutting the thread between the clamp 18 and its bobbin 12 as the shuttle and the bobbin therein are moved out of the turret and (c) a stationary bridge 26 of arcuate shape arranged around part of the turret, the bridge 26 carrying control means for starting each winding operation and operating the clamps 18 and scissors 24 in correct sequence. When a shuttle and its bobbin leave the turret and the thread between the bobbin and its clamp 18 is cut by the scissors 24, the thread end that then extends from the bobbin is gripped by pincers that are not shown and the shuttle then leaves the chain 10 temporarily in order that it may be passed through the shed of the warp 52. The chain 10 returns the empty bobbins 12 in their shuttles 11 to the winding heads 4 of the turret. When such a refilled winding head 4 passes a stop 19 on the bridge 26, the stop 19 acts on a projection 74, Fig. 3, on the winding head involved to cause a resilient laminae 45 to sweep through an arc causing a lever 39 to deflect clockwise in Fig. 3 and so cause a projection 73 to close a switch 30. Closure of the switch 30 energizes the winding head motor 20 to spin the flyer arm 44 and rotate the gear train shown in Fig. 3. Rotation of the gear train moves a flat surface on cam 36 away from the lever 39 and this causes the switch 30 to remain closed until the flat surface is again parallel with the lever 39 whereupon the switch 30 is opened and the winding operation ceases.
