1335291 Travelling wave shed looms VYZKUMNY USTAV BAVLNARSKY 20 April 1971 [28 April 1970] 10106/71 Headings DID and D1E In a travelling wave shed loom, shuttles 1 are reloaded with weft on a rotating tunnel 109 having a plurality of weft metering devices 7, the drive of the weft metering devices being independent from that of the loom. The shuttles are returned from the opposite side of the shed and guided under part of the rotating path of the metering devices 7 on an endless chain (not shown). As the shuttles approach, the devices 7 are lifted by a stationary cam 112 and lowered so that a flyer 14 on the metering device is in a position to wind the weft yarn a predetermined number of turns around a rotatable bobbin 116 in the shuttle. A weft supply bobbin 5 is provided for each device 7 which each have a gripper 13 gripping the yarn end of the bobbin. As the shuttles part from the metering device, at 106, gripper: 13 releases the yarn end 3b, is transferred to the other side of the shuttle path by a stationary cam groove 114 acting on a roller 115 which controls the position of grippars 13 and the closing and opening of a yarn brake 15 and regrips the weft yarn whereupon the yarn extending between grippers 13 and shuttle 1 is cut by a knife 17 or scissors. The end 3a thus formed is gripped between a pair of conveyor belts 18 and moved with the shuttle up to the edge of the shed. The shuttle 1 has a central recess 9 which accommodates the bobbin 8 with a groove 10 communicating between the recess and the shuttle side wall to allow the end 14a of the flyer to move out as the shuttle moves away from the metering device, Fig. 7. A hinged spring biassed cover (22), Fig. 12, (not shown) may be provided over this groove. Apertures 11 and 12 are also provided in the shuttle wall to allow the yarn 3b to pass through.
