Abstract
1336208 Making coils SIEMENS AG 8 Nov 1971 [19 Nov 1970] 51757/71 Heading B3A [Also in Division B8] A process for the manufacture of cylindrical coils which may be used in fixed word data stores comprises providing a tubular core 1, Fig. 1, with a winding 2, passing one wire 3 through the tubular core, placing the core on a mandrel 4 of rectangular cross-section forming part of a conveyer belt 5, connecting the ends 3, 6 of the coil to parts 8, 9 to form contact pieces, encasing the coil assembly 35 and part of the contact pieces in synthetic plastics material 10, Fig. 2, and parting the conveyer belt along a dividing line 29 to form a coil assembly having insulated contact pieces held in base parts 27, 32. The base parts have different widths (a), (b), Fig. 3 (not shown), to allow correct insertion into a supporting plate and also serve as a stop. In place of contact pieces 8, 9 the conveyer belt may be formed with contact plates (16), (17), or pin-like contacts (18), (19), Figs. 4, 5 (not shown). An alternative form of conveyer for use in the process, Fig. 6 (not shown), comprises subsidiary belts (33), (34) and is used when unwound rod cores are to be formed in addition to coil assemblies 35. Holding plate (25) is bent to form a resilient ring clip (30), Fig. 7 (not shown) to receive a rod core. After spraying the assemblies and cores with plastics material the cores and one end of the coils are parted along line (28), and then the other end of the assemblies are parted from belt (23) along line 29. One or more components forming part of the drive circuit of the coil, e.g. a resistor, a diode, may be accommodated in the base parts of the assembly.
