Abstract

1336181 Microwave heaters NESTLE'S PRODUCTS Ltd 23 April 1971 [13 May 1970 23 Feb 1971] 10948/71 Heading H5H Apparatus for roasting coffee beans and freeze drying comprises a meander shaped waveguide having straight parallel portions joined by curved portions, each straight portion being slotted to allow a conveyer band 5 to pass therethrough and each slot 8 having lips 9 spaced apart by a distance not more than one eighth the wavelength of the waveguide, said lips being internally grooved at 10 so that a cavity resonator of dimensions l and h is formed. The lips 9 prevent energy leakage. Tunnels 13 join the lips 9 of one straight section to another. The tunnels and/or waveguide may be perforated to allow the escape of moisture, A water load or a cavity with ferrite walls is provided at one end of the waveguide and a generator at the other end. The conveyer band may be replaced by a vibrating bed.
