Abstract

1336165 Polymer compositions ROSTONE CORP 7 June 1971 [30 July 1970] 38794/70 Heading C3P [Also in Divisions H1 and H2] Arc-interrupting compositions comprise melamine, hydrated alumina and a polymeric binder, but free from any component which undergoes substantial carbonization in the presence of an electric arc, the hydrated alumina providing improved arc-extinguishing characteristics compared with those obtainable with compositions containing either hydrated alumina or melamine alone. Specified binders are polyethylene, polypropylene, polytetrafluoroethylene, acrylic and acetal resins, vinylpolymers, styrene polymers, elastomers, cellulose polymers, polyamides and polyimides. Thermosetting binders such as melamine/formaldehyde, urea/formaldehyde, epoxy, polyester and phenolic resins may also be used. The compositions may also comprise finely divided inorganic fillers, e.g. silica and aluminium fluoride; and may be moulded or formulated as a coating composition adapted to dry or set on application, e.g. by dispersing in a liquid vehicle or using liquid precursors of the resin binder. Examples describe compositions of polyethylene, hydrated alumina and melamine.
