Abstract

1337952 Electrically-insulating polymer compositions RAYCHEM Ltd 12 Oct 1970 [17 Oct 1969] 29010/73 Divided out of 1337951 Headings C3B and C3P Mouldable compositions suitable for forming electrical insulation comprise an epoxy resin and an anti-tracking filler system comprising (a) hydrated alumina having a specific surface area of at least 2 m<SP>2</SP>./g. and (b) an oxide, mixed oxide or mixture of oxides containing at least one element of Group IVa, Va, VIa, VIIa or VIII of the Mendeleef Periodic Table, or of the lanthanide or actinide series. The resin may be a cycloaliphatic epoxy resin or a butyl acrylate/ glycidyl methacrylate copolymer; and the compositions may also contain other polymeric materials, e.g. olefin polymers and copolymers, chlorosulphonated polyethylene, acrylic resins and silicone polymers; fillers; flame retardants and pigments. Specified oxides are ferric oxide, chromic oxide, cobaltic and cobalto-cobaltic oxides, cobalt silicate, cobalt aluminate and ferric oxide/cobaltic oxide mixtures.
