Abstract

1336142 Lubricants WATER RESEARCH ASSOCIATION 18 Dec 1970 [13 Jan 1970] 1666/70 Heading C5F A push-fit pipe joint is assembled by applying to one or both of the pipe ends a lubricant comprising water, a bactericide and a watersoluble thickening agent, the amount of water and thickening agent being such that the lubricant is a paste, gel or viscous liquid, and pushing the pipe-ends together. The bactericide may be cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide, alkyldimethylbenzyl ammonium chlorides, cetylpyrridinium chloride, dodecyldimethyl - 2- phenoxyethyl ammonium bromide or 2,6- dimethyl - 1,1 - diethyl piperidinium bromide. Specified water-soluble thickeners are methyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose. The lubricant may also contain a water-insoluble thickener, e.g. silica or powdered plastics material, and an anti-freeze agent such as ethanol or proylene glycol.
