Abstract

1,261,881. Witch hazel gels. ETHICHEM Ltd. 4 March, 1969 [4 Dec., 1967], No. 55046/ 67. Heading A5B. A pharmaceutical composition in the form of a gel comprises a major proportion of distilled or liquid extracted witch hazel B.P.C., and a minor proportion of a carboxy vinyl copolymer and/or a synthetic clay as gelling agent. The gelling agent may also include a cellulose ester, a cellulose ether, a gum, hydroxypropy methyl cellulose or sodium carboxymethyl cellulose. An antiseptic such as hexachlorophane, cetrimide, chlorhexidine acetate or gluconate, cetyl pyridinium chloride or benzalkonium chloride may also be present.
